4. Kevin Luckhurst – Explosives Search Dog Handler

Before retiring to join Kovert, Kevin had a varied Police Career and in the main he has always been focused on the criminal element.

He spent time in CID before taking on the role of Dog Handler in 1986. During his 13 years with the Dog Section, Kevin worked 3 general-purpose patrol dogs and specialised in working a tactical firearms dog and a public order dog. At the same time Kevin also worked drugs and explosives detection dogs. He was also an assistant trainer.

While on the Dog Section, Kevin performed many duties including numerous firearms operations and security for

VIPs including the home and foreign secretaries of the time. During this time Kevin was also a member of the Territorial Army in a specialist infantry role.

Kevin left the dog section in 1999 to pursue another challenge and began working within the intelligence field. Subsequently Kevin was invited to form a new team within Special Branch dealing primarily with the sea and airports throughout Kent. This involved advising port authorities on security issues, mounting anti-terrorist operations, and dealing with organised human trafficking and serious organised port commodity crime.

Kevin has been actively engaged with the Security Services, Military, HMRC, Immigration Service, other Police Services and Departments including the National Crime Squad, NCIS and various European police services, together with civilian Port and Security companies. As such, until his retirement he was security vetted to a very high level. He is now returning to his dog handling vocation where he offers a high level of expertise and experience.
